Every Child Matters | Honouring the 215 lost souls

[Español abajo] It is 2:15 pm in what is now called British Columbia. This week, each day at this time, we are taking a moment of silence to hold space for the 215 children found in traditional Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory (colonially known as Kamloops, British Columbia). It is a time of deep mourning across the country. [TRIGGER WARNING: Information about Residential Schools, violence against Indigenous peoples, intergenerational trauma] For many across the world, Canada is seen as an idolized State, as a country to strive to emulate. In some ways, it is. And in many other ways, it hides behind this façade as it continues to commit grave human rights and environmental injustices.
